You don’t need to be a monk on a mountain top to meditate. When I was 18 a good friend introduced me to a book called, “journey to Awakening” by Ram Dass. He recommended instead of isolating and going to special retreats for meditation to bring meditation home to the ordinary life happenings Such as standing in a grocery store line.
This morning I left our daily morning meditation early to start the day, but I didn’t stop the meditation process. I just brought it with me. While washing the dishes and singing oommms, the agitation and frustrations that sometimes comes with washing dishes is less apparent. Breathing in Gratefulness for the warm water, breathing in appreciation for each dish. Having patience for the stack before me instead of annoyance, etc. Obviously being annoyed, irritated and frustrated wont get the dishes done any faster. You see my point. But often we aren’t bringing mindfulness into these simple everyday activities. Instead we’re daydreaming about that retreat we’d love to go to if only we could afford the time off work and the price tag attached. This is a simple way to bring that retreat home with you and it doesn’t cost a dime and the results are instantaneous! Experience the Wow of Now!
